ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BENCH

This project was born on an original idea of Isabelle Franques in collaboration with Lisa Robert and the Choréactif association of Clotilde Amprimoz.

Choreographic piece in situ, for two performers and a public bench, duration 30 minutes.

ON the bench, slices of life, intimate and everyday, in body and in disagreement.

BEHIND the bench, memories that reveal traces of a popular memory.

The public and passers-by find themselves facing two women, posted on a neighborhood bench.
We invite them
to take a closer look at this object, which often goes unnoticed.
The motionless journey can begin.

Close at hand, on this bench, a succession of sketches that tell us about a unique daily life: that of the public bench.

Going from lovers to seniors, from the "homeless" to the poet, from the first date to the sandwich break, we go through different daily realities: social, political, intimate, lyrical, sometimes desperate, often absurd ...
These choreographic performances are based on the strong symbolism of this everyday object. Bodies extend this bench structure and take hold of popular, societal and political motifs and embody them: tribune bench, dormitory bench, refuge bench, meeting bench, contemplation bench ...

On the other side of the bench reveals a free public space and intimate where one has the right to sit down, take the time to dream, meet, share, be stopped, meet, contemplate, harangue, do nothing and say everything.

THE IDEA?

The use of public benches

Staying at home pushes us to question our spaces of freedom and expression. Taking some fresh air in his suddenly silent neighborhood and going to sit on THE public bench downstairs suddenly takes on the air of a great trip.

For us, the reappropriation of public space undeniably passes through this universal foundation which inspires us to slow down. Take the time, discuss, contemplate, meditate with this old friend who knows a lot about life.

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

In this uncertain context, it makes perfect sense.

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

Investing in street furniture accessible to ALL when exhibition and performance venues are constrained allows us to concretely affirm a need to slow down, to be moved, and to re-appropriate our neighborhood.

We want to invest, enhance and safeguard these meeting places.

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

We attach great importance to the memory, collection and transmission of local stories.

To do this together, we must rely on each other's experiences and allow transmission between generations and social categories that are too often separated.

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

We wish to highlight “The public bench” in different forms in order to question and preserve the social bond it embodies.

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

Its accessibility, its history and its social role in fact give it a fundamental place to rebuild the public space together and reinvent the relationship with others.

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

  • Representation within their establishment

  • A trip to the Contre-Plongées festival to attend the show La ligne S, an in situ variation by the company Arkhè

In addition to this, you need to know more about it.

  • 12/17/2020 The ChoréActif association, in partnership with Nogozone, offered a videoconference at UFR STAPS as part of the Master 2 CEDESRI: Design, development and animation of innovative recreational spaces, as part of "Territorial Creativity and cultural "

All cultural mediations as well as residences made and to come are very important for the team and the project

“On the other side of the bench” because all lived experiences feed off and intertwine.

The project "On the other side of the bench" was set up in the summer between late July and early August in Clermont-Ferrand with the support of the DRAC Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (Grant Take the air (from time)) and the Corum St Jean.
